Surviving summer

The heat wave has arrived and temperatures are rising, this does not mean your style needs to suffer. Keep it clean with the hot-weather essentials.
The heat wave has arrived and temperatures are rising, this does not mean your style needs to suffer. Keep it clean with the hot-weather essentials.

As the weather temperatures are steadily rising and the heat wave continues don’t lose your style yet! There are heaps of summer must-haves left on the shelves for you to go out and get, to undertake this weather in style:

From pastel numbers, scallop edges, to the simple white shirt and harems there is no reason for anyone's clothing outfits to become untactful and tasteless.

Harem trousers; loose-fitting pants are the must-have trousers for the hot months ahead. Pair up a pair of these stylish and loose trousers with a vest or crop top to get a cool and quirky style during the day. These trousers can certainly be worn on a night out; with a blouse and a blazer or sparkly top. Dress them up with heels for the night or a day around town with flats and a denim jacket.

Pastel colours: bubble-gum pink, acid yellow, ice blue, and aquamarine are some of the chicest colours of the season. All the shops are featuring these colours in their collections to brighten up the themes and enlighten the collections with these summer shades. Dress up these colours with metallic accessories to add the perfect finishing touch.

As I went around the shops today I started to notice that sneakers or trainers are not just being worn round the gym or when exercising, they are not just sports shoes anymore but are actually becoming acceptable and even fashionable to be worn with a pretty dress, a pair of jeans or a skirt.

In the shops I did not just notice one type of trainer but I noticed there were high tops, running shoes, hidden platforms, flatforms and wedges. You name it, the shops had it.

It is not just high street shops like Urban Outfitters or River Island that are selling trainers now but designers like Michael Kors, Isabel Marant and Lanvin are featuring sneakers into their collections.

The new Michael Kors sneakers feature, high-tops, trainers and slip-on silhouettes, with metallic finishes, bursts of neon colour and embossed snakeskin textures. The sneakers range from £99 to £165, I think everyone is getting ready to indulge!

Celebrities have started to set this trend and bring ideas of how to style trainers with an outfit. Celebs like Rita Ora, Rihanna and Cara Delevingne know exactly how to rock the trainer look. They seem to find a new way of matching sneakers to an outfit they are wearing no matter how smart or casual.

So as I started reading the new trends that are set out for this Autumn the trend that struck me and caught my eye was the rise of oversized clothing, bags, outerwear and accessories.

The bigger the better is my motto this autumn, with cocoon coats, pillow-sleeved jackets, billowing trousers and structured skirts being displayed in all the collections.

"Oversize was the cool new message this season: shoulders were dropped, lengths were long and trousers had low crotches," Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers explains. "It's a look ideal for a confident tomboy who likes to keep things simple, strict and streamlined."

But what is the easiest way to oversize?
The easiest and best way is to contrast volume with slimline structure in a stylish pairing of opposites. Put a pencil skirt together or pair of jeans together with a big baggy jumper and on top an oversized coat.

It's not just oversized clothes that are a hit on a runway, oversized bags are also a must have this Autumn. Occasionally a trend comes along that works not only as a style statement, but one that is practical too.

Supersized handbags are the way to look fashionable and in the know. They look fabulous and in this supersize scale your bag will be hard to miss - but even better, their maxed-out capacity means they can hold all of your worldly possessions.

Kristen Stewart

So Kristen Stewart's stylist has revealed Kristen's top 5 party dress tricks that she has. Are you a fan of Kristen's party/chic/rock look? She's switched from awkward fashion hater to complete red carpet goddess, with amazing side-swept hair and she still manages to hold onto her all important 'I couldn't care less' in the process. That'll be largely down to her hot stylist, Tara Swennen She's touched down on the art of turning young starlets into icons without resorting to rubbish.
Tara’s Top 5 Party Dressing Tips
1. 'Always consider the occasion first and foremost – like if it’s a formal and upscale gathering you should consider a conventional, classic cut. But if it’s a fun filled silly party, you can vamp up the sex appeal in a fun cocktail dress!'

2. 'Know your body type - choose a cut and print that complements your body and accents your best features rather than following a trend. Wear shapewear and heels that you know can last you through the night and remember that sometimes comfort is a key factor in how you carry yourself!'

3. 'Go with your mood - If you are feeling sassy-try sparkles or a bold print. If you are more of the conservative type try a sophisticated pencilled sheath in a rich colour and have fun with accessories or a bold lip colour or hairstyle to make it more playful!'

4. 'Avoid over-accessorising! Pick one bold item and keep everything else clean and simple.'

5. 'Think about your heel choice - the hottest heels are always the ones that give your leg the best curvature by lifting and shaping - so in general, the higher the better! Try a sexy strappy by Aquazurra or a super sexy Pigalle pump by Christian Louboutin.'

Fierce Vs pretty

Something that really caught my eye this week was a trend that comes around every so often but is now once again back. Fierce Vs pretty is here and more striking than ever.

From pretty bows to delicate lace or hardcore leather and black. Which fashion tribe do you belong to?

Latest Fashion Trends

When I hear the word pretty I think cute little bows, pink and ruffles. When I hear the word fierce I think black, lace, red and leather.

Can Fierce and pretty be combined? Or Do they have to be worn as two different styles?

There is not one answer to this as every person has their own taste and own style but in my opinion pretty and fierce should be combined. Who is to say that a dress can’t be pretty and fierce in one?

This is an ideal example of combining the themes of fierce and pretty together in to a dress. This dress’s main colour is black yet the shocking pink bows and pink netting adds to the design of the dress, giving it a girly feel.

There is no right or wrong answer whether or not the style fierce and pretty go together as each person should have their own individual style.

Winter 2012

So, winter is finally here and it’s that time of year where everyone is wondering what the trends are for this season. Luckily I am going to enlighten you on some of this winters fads.

Over sized Jumpers:
Like every year knitted jumpers are always a hit when it comes to winter. This year it’s not just about regular knitted jumpers it’s about over sized and chunky jumpers. Be sure that you will be making a huge statement when you wear an over sized jumper or an over sized jumper with a bold pattern. Don’t just stop at the jumper though, accessorize these jumpers by adding a belt, a clutch on a bold necklace. The bigger the better is this seasons phrase for me.

Choosing the right winter coat is the biggest sartorial choice of the shopping year. The trend of having clothing over sized is very much in fashion this winter. Like having an over sized jumper is a must this winter so is an over sized coat. Big is beautiful this winter; exaggerated proportions and wide set shoulders, crank up the volume on outwear. The coats do not have to be bold, statement colours to attract attention. The bigger the coat results in the more attraction you get, not the bigger the colour the more attraction. Neutral colours like nude, blue, grey and cream are all coats that can be worn on top of any outfit to create the perfect winter look.

A strong trend this winter is the military look. It has gone from catwalk to high-street within a blink of an eye and is bang on trend this winter. This look can be seen in al clothing from boots to belts to shirts and to trousers. Khaki is the main colour behind this trend and can complete an outfit by adding one piece with military style.

Rose Huntington-Whiteley

This week was jam-packed with A List events, from the premiere of Skyfall to the CFDA Fashion Fund Event  to the launch of Maison Martin Mangiela for H and M.Kristen Stewart looked fab at the Breaking Dawn photocall in Tokyo and Taylor Swift looked wonderful in red on her album promo tour.

However, the person that wiped out all the A-list starts with her beautiful green apple dress was Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at the The LACMA art and film gala. Rosie shamed A-list stars by not being afraid to show them a little bit of skin. She stole the spotlight from stars like Cameron Diaz and Amy Adams who just simply were out done.
